Chapter 6 - The Property Deed

Julian rolled his eyes, assuming she was digging for a tissue to wipe her tears, or finally reaching for the house keys.

"Hurry up, Clara," Julian snapped impatiently. "Chloe and I have dinner reservations at six, and the movers are bringing her furniture in an hour."

Clara didn't pull out a tissue. She didn't pull out the keys.

She smoothly pulled out a thick, folded, officially stamped legal document. The heavy parchment paper caught the bright suburban sunlight. She stepped forward, entirely ignoring Chloe, and held the document directly in front of Julian’s face.

Julian’s arrogant glare dropped to the bold, black text at the top of the page.

It was the official property deed for the estate.

"Actually..." Clara said, her voice sharp, confident, and ringing with unstoppable justice. "...this house belongs to me."

Julian snatched the document from her hand. His eyes darted frantically across the legal jargon, looking for his name. He looked for the joint ownership clause. He looked for anything that tied him to the brick mansion.

But there was only one name printed as the sole, exclusive owner of the property.
