Chapter 7 - The Shattered Illusion

A cinematic medium shot captured Julian’s complete and utter destruction.
His arrogant, authoritative demeanor shattered instantly. The color violently drained from his face, leaving him as pale as a ghost. His hands trembled as he held the heavy legal paper. He realized in a fraction of a second that he didn't own the driveway he was standing on. He didn't own the porch. He didn't own the mansion.
"What?" Julian breathed out, horrified and breathless. "This... this is a fake. I pay the property taxes!"
"You pay them from our joint account," Clara corrected smoothly, radiating complete power. "An account that I exclusively fund with my inheritance dividends. You haven't contributed a single dollar to this estate in three years, Julian."
Chloe peered nervously over his shoulder, her chic white outfit suddenly looking entirely out of place.
"Julian, what does it say?" Chloe asked, her voice high-pitched and panicking. "Tell her to leave! This is your house!"

Julian couldn't speak. The air in his lungs had turned to absolute ice. He realized he was standing on the concrete with his mistress, and he was completely, legally, and financially homeless.
