Chapter 5 - The Corrupt Politician

The grand foyer of the mansion was a masterpiece of Italian marble and sweeping staircases.

The heavy front doors swung open, and Richard Vance stormed inside. He was a tall man in his forties, wearing an expensive navy blue suit, his face red with arrogant fury. Behind him stood four local police officers, looking incredibly nervous without their sidearms.

Lorenzo stood at the top of the grand staircase, his hands casually in his pockets. Behind him stood Clara, visibly trembling in her grey maid uniform, holding little Sofia tightly against her legs.

"Moretti!" Richard barked, pointing a furious finger up the stairs. "Hand over my daughter and the psychotic thief who kidnapped her! You are harboring a fugitive!"

Lorenzo slowly walked down the marble steps. He moved with the slow, terrifying grace of an apex predator.

"You're making a lot of noise in my house, Senator," Lorenzo said smoothly.

"I have a court order!" Richard yelled, waving a signed piece of paper in the air. "She is a convicted thief and a drug addict! I have full custody! Give me the child, or I will have this entire estate raided by the FBI before midnight!"

"Is that so?" Lorenzo asked, stopping just two steps above Richard, towering over the corrupt politician.

"Daddy!" Sofia suddenly cried out, burying her face into Clara's apron, terrified of the man screaming at the bottom of the stairs.

"Get down here right now, Sofia!" Richard roared, losing his temper completely. He lunged past Lorenzo, aggressively grabbing the hem of Clara's grey uniform.

Lorenzo moved with blinding speed. He grabbed Richard’s wrist, twisting it violently until the Senator cried out in pain and dropped to his knees on the marble floor.
