Chapter 5 - The Patriarch's Wrath

The very next morning, while Vincent was at the office kissing his mistress, Claire completely bypassed the normal chain of command.

She drove directly to the heavily guarded, sprawling countryside estate of Don Salvatore Moretti—Vincent’s eighty-year-old grandfather and the true, undisputed founder of the family’s global corporate empire. Salvatore was a man of terrifying, old-world power. He despised weakness, he despised disloyalty, and above all else, he absolutely despised anyone stealing from the family.

Claire sat in Salvatore’s dark, cigar-smoke-filled study. Sitting next to the old man was Vincent’s father, Lorenzo.

Without a single tear, Claire placed the printed financial documents, the real estate deeds, and the romantic text messages directly onto the heavy oak desk.

"Your grandson is an adulterer," Claire stated clinically, her voice perfectly calm as she bounced her one-month-old baby on her knee. "But more importantly, he is a thief. He embezzled six and a half million dollars from your master trust to buy his mistress a house."

Salvatore slowly put on his reading glasses. The room went completely, suffocatingly silent as the terrifying patriarch reviewed the forged wire transfers.

The natural micro-expressions on the old man’s weathered face shifted from mild curiosity to a cold, apocalyptic, and entirely demonic fury. He looked at the forged signature on the authorization form. Vincent had faked his own grandfather's handwriting.

Lorenzo’s face turned violently pale. He knew his son had just signed his own death warrant.

"He stole from the family," Salvatore whispered, his deep, gravelly voice shaking the crystal glasses on his desk.

"Yes, he did," Claire agreed smoothly. "And I want him completely destroyed. Publicly."
