Chapter 6 - The Elevator Ride

The chaotic, toxic energy of the corporate lobby faded entirely as the heavy steel doors of the executive elevator slid shut.
Vincent, Claire, and Sophia were trapped inside the plush, mirrored elevator car, shooting upward toward the top-floor executive boardroom. The silence was absolutely suffocating.
Vincent was sweating profusely. His sharp black suit suddenly felt like a suffocating cage. He desperately tried to regain control of the narrative, leaning aggressively toward his wife in an attempt to intimidate her into silence.
"Claire, you are acting completely insane," Vincent hissed, his voice dropping into a desperate, threatening whisper. "You are clearly suffering from postpartum psychosis. There is no mansion! Sophia is just my assistant! You are going to embarrass me in front of the board!"
Claire didn't even look at him. She gently adjusted the pink lace headband on her sleeping baby, completely unfazed by his pathetic gaslighting.
Standing in the corner of the elevator, Sophia crossed her arms. The blonde assistant smirked softly, feeling entirely untouchable. She believed Vincent was a god in this building. She believed no one could touch them.
"Mrs. Moretti, I think you should go home and rest," Sophia chimed in, her voice dripping with toxic, arrogant condescension. "Vincent works so hard for this family. You shouldn't make up these crazy, paranoid delusions just to get attention."
Claire slowly turned her head. She locked her beautiful, calm eyes directly onto the arrogant assistant.
"Enjoy the flowers, Sophia," Claire whispered, her voice a chilling, lethal frequency. "It's the last expensive thing you will ever receive."
