Chapter 5 - The Corporate Trap

Victor’s hands began to shake as he opened the heavy red folder.

Inside was a series of highly encrypted, unredacted corporate banking logs. Victor’s face turned violently pale as he read the first page. The documents clearly proved that Rachel had discovered his massive financial embezzlement exactly six months ago.

But she hadn't filed for divorce. She hadn't screamed. She had quietly, flawlessly executed a corporate massacre.

While Victor was busy buying diamonds for Elise, Rachel had legally transferred the massive, multi-million-dollar corporate debt from their failing subsidiary shell companies directly into Victor’s sole name.

"You see, Victor," Rachel whispered smoothly, leaning back against the white sofa. "You didn't just force me to sign away my half of the company. You forced me to sign away my half of the corporate debt. By demanding sole ownership, you just legally assumed sole responsibility for forty-five million dollars in defaulting loans."

Victor’s jaw literally unhinged. The divorce papers slipped from his trembling hands, scattering across the highly polished marble floor.

"No," Victor choked out, physically staggering backward. "No, the company is highly profitable! I checked the main ledgers yesterday!"

"The main ledgers you checked were heavily doctored by my accounting team," Rachel replied, entirely devoid of human mercy. "The company has been completely bankrupt for ninety days. I completely drained the liquid assets to pay off my own initial investments."
