Chapter 6 - The Federal Guillotine

"What is she talking about, Victor?!" Elise shrieked wildly, completely abandoning her glamorous persona as pure, unadulterated panic took over. "Forty-five million dollars?! You told me you were a billionaire!"

"I am!" Victor roared, frantically digging through the red folder. But every single page confirmed his absolute, apocalyptic financial destruction.

"Not anymore," Rachel corrected softly. She pointed a perfectly manicured finger at the final page of the document. "You missed the final balloon payment on the corporate loans this morning. Which means you are officially in federal default."

The heavy, suffocating silence in the sunlit living room was absolutely deafening.

Victor dropped to his knees on the marble floor, completely humiliating himself in front of the woman he had tried to destroy. The arrogant, untouchable CEO was completely dead, violently replaced by a sobbing, broken fraud.

"Rachel, please!" Victor wailed hysterically, desperately reaching his hand out toward her white silk robe. "You can't do this! The banks will seize everything! They'll take the house! They'll take my cars!"

"They already did," Rachel replied coldly.
