Chapter 3 - The Secret Weapon

A tight, cinematic close-up captured Patricia’s face.
For ten agonizing seconds, she looked down at the paper, the tears threatening to spill over her cheeks. She loved Mason more than anything in the world. The thought of never seeing her grandson again physically tore at her heart.
But as Patricia looked at the arrogant, smug faces of her daughter and her future son-in-law, her realistic micro-expressions began to violently shift.
The heartbroken, submissive widow completely vanished. A cold, terrifying, and completely unbreakable resolve hardened her features.
"Alright," Patricia whispered, her voice trembling slightly, but carrying a sudden, unnatural calm.
Samantha smirked, immediately pulling a heavy gold pen from her designer clutch and practically shoving it into her mother’s hand. She thought she had completely won. She thought the older woman was entirely broken by the threat of isolation.
"Just sign the bottom line," Samantha instructed eagerly, her eyes flashing with pure greed.
But Patricia didn't take the gold pen. She kept her hands calmly in her lap.
"But someone needs to join this conversation first," Patricia stated quietly, her voice entirely devoid of fear.
