Chapter 4 - The Speakerphone
Samantha frowned, deeply confused and suddenly highly irritated by the delay. "Mom, put your purse away. Just sign the damn paper so we can order dinner."
Patricia didn't listen to her. She smoothly pulled out her sleek smartphone.
The screen was already lit up, showing an active, ongoing phone call. The call timer was already at twelve minutes. Patricia had discreetly dialed the number before Samantha and Brandon had even presented the blackmail documents. She had kept the phone hidden in her open purse the entire time, broadcasting every single horrific, extorting word they had said.
Patricia didn't put the phone to her ear.
She confidently tapped the speakerphone icon. She set the phone down firmly on the pristine white tablecloth, right next to her crystal wine glass and the stack of fraudulent legal documents.
"Patricia?" a deep, highly authoritative male voice echoed clearly from the phone speaker. "Is everything alright?"
Samantha’s arrogant, confident glare dropped instantly. The color violently drained from her perfectly contoured face, replaced by sudden, genuine panic.
