Samantha was completely silenced. She choked on her own tears, her reign of psychological cruelty and greed ending forever in the middle of the upscale bistro.
Brandon didn't even try to comfort her. He aggressively threw his napkin onto the table, furiously storming out of the restaurant and abandoning his fiancé entirely. The toxic couple had violently turned on each other the second the money disappeared.
Patricia didn't look back.
She grabbed her light blue purse and walked smoothly out of the restaurant. The warm ambient lighting illuminated her path as she stepped out into the crisp night air. She hailed a cab, completely free, immensely wealthy, and absolutely secure in her own power.
In the months that followed, Samantha’s life completely collapsed. Brandon left her, terrified of the federal blackmail charges hanging over his head. Completely broke and unable to maintain her lavish lifestyle, Samantha was forced to move into a tiny apartment, entirely dependent on her own minimum-wage salary.
