Chapter 5 - The Lawyer's Wrath
"Mom, what are you doing?" Samantha choked out in a panicking whisper, her hands trembling violently as she tried to reach across the table to grab the phone.
Patricia smoothly slid the phone entirely out of her reach.
"I'm perfectly fine, Arthur," Patricia replied calmly to the phone.
Arthur wasn't just a random friend. He was Arthur Sterling, the most ruthless, high-powered family and estate lawyer in the entire state. He had aggressively managed Patricia’s late husband's multi-million dollar corporate assets for over twenty years.
"I heard everything, Patricia," Arthur stated over the speakerphone, his voice dropping into a lethal, terrifying register meant to terrorize people into absolute submission.
Brandon froze completely, standing awkwardly over the table. The smug, condescending fiancé was completely paralyzed. He exchanged a terrified, wide-eyed look of pure horror with Samantha.
Their entire master plan had just collapsed into dust in a fraction of a second.

"Samantha, Brandon," Arthur addressed them directly over the speaker, his tone dripping with imminent legal destruction. "Coercing a signature on a Power of Attorney through emotional extortion is a massive, highly illegal federal offense. It is classified as elder financial abuse."
