Chapter 3 - The Leather Sofa

The cinematic tension in the half-empty apartment spiked to a paralyzing level.
Kayla watched in sheer, unadulterated horror as Gabe, the muscular head mover, easily hoisted one end of the heavy leather sectional sofa. He completely ignored the screaming twenty-five-year-old, focused entirely on doing the job he was highly paid to do.
"You can't take all this!" Kayla shrieked desperately, physically stepping in front of the movers, raising her hands to block the doorway. "Mom said the furniture stays! It's mine now!"
Rachel stepped smoothly in front of her sister, blocking Kayla’s path to the workers.
Rachel didn't yell. She didn't throw a tantrum. A cold, highly calculated, and terrifyingly confident smile slowly spread across her face, asserting her total financial dominance.
"Mom doesn't own a single throw pillow in this entire building," Rachel replied clinically, looking down at her entitled sister. "I bought every piece of furniture with my own money. I have the receipts. And since you and Mom so graciously decided to take over the lease, you can furnish it yourself."
Kayla physically staggered backward, her stylish white coat suddenly feeling like a suffocating straightjacket.
She had absolutely zero money in her bank account. She couldn't even afford to buy a mattress, let alone furnish a three-thousand-square-foot luxury penthouse.
"Enjoy the empty apartment," Rachel whispered coldly.

👉 Kayla frantically pulled out her phone to call their mother, completely oblivious to the legal trap she was about to fall into.
