Chapter 6 - The Financial Trap

The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal paralyzed both mother and daughter in the empty apartment.
"When Rachel originally signed this lease five years ago, she didn't just sign for the rent," Mr. Sterling explained, watching the blood violently drain from Diane's face. "Because you had terrible credit, Rachel secured the apartment using her digital marketing agency as the primary corporate guarantor."
Kayla began to hyperventilate. "What does that mean?"
"It means," Mr. Sterling smiled, a cold, predatory expression, "that when your mother legally transferred the lease entirely into your name yesterday, she completely removed Rachel's corporate backing. You are now solely responsible for the entire financial burden of this luxury penthouse."
"We can pay the rent!" Diane panicked, her voice cracking.
"The rent is twelve thousand dollars a month, Diane," Mr. Sterling stated smoothly. "And because the corporate guarantor was removed, the building management’s automated system instantly triggered a mandatory security deposit reassessment."
Mr. Sterling handed the blue folder directly to a weeping, trembling Kayla.

"You currently owe the building management a certified check for thirty-six thousand dollars by 5:00 PM today to cover first, last, and the new security deposit," Mr. Sterling whispered, devoid of any human mercy. "If you do not pay it, you will be formally evicted by tomorrow morning, and the massive debt will permanently destroy your credit score."
👉 Kayla dropped to her knees in pure terror, but the lawyer was about to deliver the absolute final blow.
