Chapter 5 - The Corporate Lawyer

Standing in the hallway wasn't the building manager.
It was Mr. Sterling, a sixty-year-old, incredibly ruthless corporate attorney wearing a razor-sharp gray suit. He held a thick, heavy blue legal folder in his hand. Standing perfectly still behind him were two massive, heavily armed private security contractors.
Diane physically staggered backward, her arrogant smile violently vanishing.
"Who are you?" Diane demanded, her voice shaking slightly at the sight of the tactical vests. "You are trespassing! This is my daughter's apartment!"
"I am well aware of who holds the lease, Diane," Mr. Sterling stated coldly, stepping flawlessly into the empty foyer. His voice cut through the air like a frozen blade.
Kayla peeked out from behind her mother, her eyes wide with terror.
Mr. Sterling opened the heavy blue folder and pulled out a stamped, certified legal document.
"I represent your eldest daughter, Rachel," Mr. Sterling explained clinically. "And I am here to formally serve you both with a massive civil lawsuit for gross financial fraud and breach of contract."
"Fraud?!" Diane shrieked hysterically, clutching her beige coat. "I am a co-signer on this lease! I had every legal right to transfer it to Kayla! Rachel is just a bitter, jealous woman!"

"You had the right to transfer the lease," Mr. Sterling corrected ruthlessly. "But you completely forgot to check the utilities, the internet, and the corporate guarantor clauses."
👉 Mr. Sterling revealed the devastating legal trap Rachel had set, and Diane realized she had just ruined her golden child's life.
