Chapter 3 - The Morning Discovery

When Rachel woke up on the morning of her wedding, her head felt unnaturally cold.

She walked groggily into the marble bathroom and looked in the massive mirror. The cinematic realism of her absolute, world-shattering shock paralyzed her.

Her beautiful hair was completely gone. Coarse, uneven stubble covered her bare scalp.

For exactly five seconds, Rachel couldn't breathe. She gripped the edges of the marble sink, her heart hammering violently against her ribs. She looked down and saw a clump of her own hair kicked carelessly under the vanity.

Right next to it, Carter had accidentally dropped his secondary, encrypted cell phone in his rush to leave the room.

Rachel didn't scream. She didn't burst into hysterical tears. A cold, terrifying calmness suddenly washed over her.

She picked up the dropped phone. The screen was unlocked.

She opened his text messages and saw a conversation with his mother, Diane.

From Diane: Is it done? To Diane: Yes. She’s completely bald. She’s going to be a hysterical mess this morning. She’ll sign anything I put in front of her just to get me to stay.

👉 Rachel read the horrific text message, and the massive, fifteen-million-dollar motive finally clicked into place.
