Chapter 46 - the cornered rat

marcus sat inside a rusted office overlooking the warehouse floor, completely oblivious that his entire mercenary squad had just been flawlessly dismantled. he stared at his watch, laughing maliciously as the deadline approached. "time is up, little girl," he sneered to himself, pressing the heavy red button on his remote detonator. absolutely nothing happened. no explosion echoed in the distance. no news alerts flashed on his monitors. marcus pressed the button again, his arrogant smile violently shattering into raw, feral panic. the heavy metal door to the office was suddenly kicked open with bone-crushing force. emma stood in the doorway, the freezing winter wind whipping her dark hair. she looked down at the pathetic, trembling old man with absolute, terrifying disgust. "the hospital is safe, marcus," emma stated, her voice a low, lethal rumble that echoed perfectly through the cold room. "i disabled your archaic detonator twenty minutes ago. you have absolutely nothing left." marcus backed away, his hands shaking violently as the laser sights of emma's elite guards painted his chest red. he was utterly trapped in his own twisted game.
