Chapter 9 - The Execution of Justice

The silence in the church hall was absolute.

"Arthur," Anna said, not taking her eyes off her brother. "Play it."

Arthur took the drive from her hand. He walked over to the AV technician booth at the side of the hall. He didn't ask for permission; he shoved the drive into the main laptop and hit play on the most recent file.

The audio echoed loudly through the massive speakers of the church hall.

"She's out cold," Marcus’s recorded voice laughed maliciously through the speakers. "Take her shoes. I'm dropping her in the South Side. It's ten degrees outside. The dumb bitch will freeze to death by morning, and I'll own the whole damn company."

The crowd erupted in absolute outrage. Women covered their mouths in horror. Powerful men glared at Marcus with pure disgust.

Marcus stumbled backward away from the podium, whimpering pathetically. He spun around and tried to run toward the back exit behind the stage.

But Arthur had already texted the police department before they even walked up the church steps.

The back doors burst open. Six uniformed police officers marched onto the stage, weapons drawn.

"Marcus Sterling," the lead detective barked, grabbing the sniveling man by the collar of his expensive tuxedo and slamming him face-first onto the wooden stage. "You are under arrest for kidnapping and attempted murder."

Marcus cried like a coward as the cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists. He was dragged out of the hall in absolute humiliation, his wealth, his reputation, and his freedom completely destroyed in a matter of minutes.
