Chapter 7 - The Crushed Drive

"Shut it off!" Declan roared, his deep voice cracking with pure, apocalyptic desperation.
He aggressively lunged across the massive mahogany desk, completely abandoning his wealthy, sophisticated persona. He looked like a feral, cornered animal. He violently snatched the black USB drive from the monitor port, ripping it out so hard he cracked the plastic casing.
Declan threw the USB drive onto the floor and aggressively stomped on it with his heavy leather shoe, crushing it into dozens of tiny, worthless plastic shards.
He stood panting, his unbuttoned white shirt completely soaked in a nervous sweat. He looked at the shattered drive on the Persian rug, a manic, hysterical smile spreading across his face.
"It's gone!" Declan shrieked wildly, laughing like a lunatic. "You stupid woman! You brought the only copy directly to me! It's destroyed! You have no proof!"
A tight close-up captured Nora’s face. She didn't scream. She didn't cry over the broken plastic. Her natural micro-expressions radiated profound, unfiltered pity.
"I told you to ask the right question, Declan," Nora whispered softly, her eyes flashing with a cold, relentless intelligence. "You should have asked why I brought a physical drive when everything is stored in the cloud."
