Chapter 3 - The Folded Letter

"What is this?" Ryan demanded aggressively, his face turning violently red.
He didn't wait for an answer. He violently yanked the thick, legally certified pages open, entirely expecting it to be a pathetic apology letter or a printed airline receipt. He kept the heavy writing completely shielded from his mother and sister's view, his dark eyes violently scanning the crisp, heavily stamped text at the top of the page.
A tight close-up captured Ryan's face.
The arrogant, aggressive husband completely vanished. In a fraction of a second, his natural micro-expressions shifted from toxic fury to profound, unadulterated uncertainty. All the color violently drained from his powdered face, leaving him looking like a terrified ghost.
"Patricia," Ryan choked out, his voice cracking into a pathetic, high-pitched squeak. "What did you do?"
Teresa stepped closer, her perfectly styled blonde-gray hair shifting as she tried to look over her son's shoulder. Lauren stopped aggressively adjusting the suitcase handle, genuine confusion washing over her arrogant face.
"What is it, Ryan?" Teresa demanded impatiently. "Did she forge the tickets?"
Patricia picked up her hot coffee mug, taking a slow, completely unbothered sip. She looked directly at her terrified husband over the rim of the ceramic cup.
"Keep reading," Patricia whispered coldly, a chilling, victorious smirk finally touching her lips. "You haven’t reached the most important part."

Ryan physically stopped breathing. His trembling fingers became absolutely, terrifyingly still against the heavy legal paper. He slowly turned to the second page of the letter, his eyes widening in sheer, breathtaking horror.
👉 Ryan's knees literally buckled as he realized his wife hadn't just canceled a vacation; she had canceled his entire life.
