Chapter 4 - The Golden Boy's Fraud

Daniel let out a low, humorless laugh that sent a freezing shiver down the mother's spine.

He stepped up beside Emily, placing a protective hand on her lower back. He looked at the trembling woman in the beige coat with the eyes of a predator who had successfully cornered his prey.

“These applications list your address,” Daniel stated, his voice a low, lethal rumble.

A tight close-up captured the mother's face. Her skin turned the color of wet chalk. Her knuckles went completely white as her fingers tightened desperately around the leather straps of her handbag.

She had thought she covered her tracks perfectly. Jason had assured her that because Emily hadn't checked her credit score in years, they could easily siphon hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund his failing cryptocurrency startup using her pristine financial history.

Daniel reached into the folder. He turned another document toward her, keeping its finer details outside the camera’s view, but ensuring the mother saw the unmistakable seal of a federal banking investigator.

"Every single IP address used to submit these fraudulent applications tracks directly back to the Wi-Fi router in your living room, Helen," Daniel revealed smoothly. "And the funds were wired directly into a shell company owned by your precious son."

The mother’s chest heaved. The cinematic realization that she was completely, inescapably trapped crashed over her. She knew Daniel wasn't just a husband; he was a man who destroyed lives for a living.

She violently unzipped her handbag, her hands shaking so badly she nearly dropped it. She reached frantically for her cell phone.

“I need to call Jason,” the mother gasped, pure panic bleeding into her voice.

Emily took a step forward, her brown eyes burning with a lifetime of betrayal and repressed fury.
