Chapter 7 - The Arrest Warrant

"Emily, please!" the mother sobbed pathetically, the arrogant matriarch completely shattering into a desperate, feral coward. "I'll do anything! I'll sign my house over to you! I'll work for the rest of my life to pay it back! Just don't call the police!"

Daniel looked at his expensive wristwatch.

"I didn't call the police, Helen," Daniel replied, perfectly calm. "I called the Federal Bureau of Investigation. And I didn't do it today. I handed them the dossier forty-eight hours ago. The warrants were signed by a federal judge at 8:00 AM this morning."

The mother let out a horrific, blood-curdling scream of pure despair.

She frantically tapped her phone screen, desperately trying to dial Jason's number to warn him to flee the state. Her hands were shaking so violently she dropped the device onto the marble floor.

"You can't warn him," Daniel said, stepping over the dropped phone. "Because as of exactly four minutes ago, the FBI tactical team breached the front doors of his luxury downtown condo."

Emily stood perfectly still, her composed, observant demeanor returning as she watched the wicked woman who had tormented her finally face absolute, inescapable justice.

"Jason is currently in handcuffs, Mother," Emily said quietly, the word 'mother' dripping with irony. "His bank accounts are frozen. His startup is seized. He is going to prison for a very, very long time."

The mother fell to her knees on the pristine kitchen floor, her beige coat pooling around her as she wept hysterically, realizing her golden boy's life was permanently, irreversibly destroyed.
