Chapter 7 - OLIVIA’S CHOICE
Olivia agreed to testify.
Not because she regretted the affair.
Not at first.
Because she discovered Julian had created a life-insurance policy on her.
The beneficiary was an offshore trust controlled by Jonathan Vale.
The policy became active thirty days before the Geneva flight.
Julian planned to use Olivia’s legal expertise, take the stolen assets, then remove her.
She would become another accident.
Olivia provided passwords to encrypted accounts.
She explained the transfer structure.
She identified officials who accepted bribes.
She also admitted she knew some signatures were suspicious.
“I chose not to ask,” she said.
Emma listened from behind the interview-room glass.
That sentence mattered.
Olivia had not been deceived about everything.
She simply believed the danger belonged to someone else.
When Olivia requested a private meeting, Emma refused.
Later, she agreed with Rachel present.
Olivia wore a gray jail uniform.
The burgundy dress was evidence now.
“I am sorry,” Olivia said.
Emma looked at her.
“For sleeping with my husband?”
“For helping him erase you.”
“That is closer.”
Olivia lowered her eyes.
“He said you were weak.”
“And you liked believing that.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because then taking your place felt like winning instead of stealing.”
Emma absorbed the honesty.
“Do you expect forgiveness?”
“No.”
“Good.”
Olivia looked up.
“I can help recover the Geneva account.”
“Then do it.”
“That’s all?”
“That is all you are entitled to from me.”
Olivia became the government’s central financial witness.
Her cooperation recovered thirty-six million dollars.
The remaining assets had moved through accounts connected to Richard Whitmore.
