Chapter 11 - Richard Had to Answer for the Restaurant Kick
Richard did not pretend kicking Alejandro into the serving table was elegant.
Alejandro had grabbed Elena.
Richard removed his hand.
Then Alejandro stepped aggressively toward him.
Richard kicked first.
When local authorities interviewed witnesses, Richard gave a straightforward statement.
No chest-thumping.
No claim that wealth put him above consequences.
He said:
“I believed he was advancing toward me after physically grabbing my daughter.”
Asked whether he intended to send Alejandro into the table, Richard answered:
“No.”
“Were you angry?”
“Yes.”
“Could you have stepped backward?”
“Probably.”
That answer surprised Elena.
Later she told him:
“You don’t have to make yourself the villain.”
Richard replied:
“And I don’t need to make myself the hero either.”
That was one of the reasons Elena trusted him.
