Chapter 9 - Victoria Finally Asked Why Elena Told Her to Keep the Bracelet
Victoria removed the bracelet that morning.
She placed it on the hotel desk.
“What does she mean, I’ll need it?”
Alejandro paced.
“She’s being dramatic.”
“Then why is there a photograph of it in this folder?”
No answer.
Victoria stared at him.
“You bought this with company money?”
“I bought you a gift.”
“That isn’t what I asked.”
Alejandro snapped:
“I was going to replace the funds.”
Victoria’s expression changed.
“When?”
He said nothing.
She looked down at the diamonds.
For the first time, the bracelet no longer looked romantic.
It looked expensive in a different way.
Potentially recoverable.
Potential evidence.
Proof of what Alejandro had told her repeatedly was harmless accounting.
By noon, Victoria had hired her own attorney.
That was the beginning of the end of their alliance.
Not because she suddenly became moral.
