Chapter 2 - The Blue Folder Arrived at Nine the Next Morning
At 9:03 the following morning, Alejandro received a courier envelope at his hotel.
Inside was a blue financing folder.
The same color used by Mercer Private Credit for distressed-loan reviews.
Alejandro recognized the logo immediately.
He sat down.
Victoria stood behind him wearing a robe.
The diamond bracelet remained on her wrist.
“What is it?”
Alejandro did not answer.
He opened the folder.
The first page contained the name of his restaurant company:
A.M. Hospitality Group LLC
Below it:
Notice of Forensic Collateral Review and Suspension of Discretionary Draws.
Victoria frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“It means somebody is reviewing the loan.”
“What loan?”
Alejandro looked at her.
That was the first moment Victoria realized there were parts of Alejandro’s finances she had never understood.
His luxury lifestyle had not been supported by cash.
It had been supported by debt.
Two years earlier, A.M. Hospitality took out a $3.8 million expansion facility to open three restaurants and renovate an existing property.
The original lender later sold part of the loan portfolio.
Alejandro never cared who bought it.
Until now.
A substantial participation in his debt had been acquired by Mercer Private Credit.
Richard Mercer’s firm.
Not because Richard targeted Alejandro.
The portfolio contained nineteen hospitality loans.
Alejandro’s was simply one of them.
And until three weeks earlier—
Richard had not even known his daughter’s husband was connected to it.
Elena had.
That was why she asked for the financial statements during divorce discovery.
That was why she stopped arguing about the house.
And that was why the blue folder now contained photographs of one particular luxury purchase.
