Chapter 6 - Alejandro Wanted the Divorce Finished Before the Annual Review

The timing mattered.

Alejandro pushed aggressively for a fast settlement.

He told Elena:

“I want this over.”

At first she believed he simply wanted to marry Victoria.

That was partly true.

But the loan’s annual compliance review was due six days after the divorce.

During that review, the lender would request updated statements.

If Elena remained married to Alejandro when discrepancies surfaced, she could become involved in questions about jointly filed tax returns, household transfers, and certain personal guarantees.

Alejandro wanted the marriage legally finished before anyone began asking difficult questions.

He also wanted Elena to sign a broad settlement acknowledgment saying both spouses had disclosed all material marital financial information to each other.

Elena refused that sentence.

Her attorney replaced it with narrower language.

Alejandro became furious.

That was when Elena knew she had found the pressure point.
