Chapter 6 - The Kick Was Not the First Incident—Just the First One Caleb Saw Clearly
After the camera footage was recovered, Rowan gave Caleb a folder from her bag.
She had been documenting incidents for five weeks.
Not because she expected criminal violence.
Because she feared Caleb was being slowly convinced she was incompetent.
The first note described Milo developing a small bruise after pulling himself against the coffee table.
Rowan immediately told Caleb.
That evening Sloane texted him separately:
Rowan wasn’t watching him again.
The next week Milo cried during lunch because he was teething.
Sloane recorded thirty seconds of the crying and sent it to Caleb.
This happens every time Rowan tries feeding him. He’s terrified of her.
The video began after Rowan had stopped feeding him.
It did not show Sloane taking away the chilled teething ring he had been chewing.
Another entry:
Sloane woke Milo twenty minutes into his afternoon nap.
Then photographed him screaming in Rowan’s arms.
Caption to Caleb:
He never settles with her anymore.
The pattern was simple.
Sloane created or intensified distress.
Rowan dealt with the aftermath.
Sloane documented only the aftermath.
Then presented Rowan as the cause.
Caleb read the notes and felt physically sick.
Because he remembered every message.

He had believed most of them.
