Chapter 3 - Bianca Had Been Controlling Every Meal

Once Noah was washed, changed, and sitting safely beside Rocco with a bowl of soup, Evelyn finally told him the rest.
It began four weeks earlier.
Bianca announced that Noah had become “too demanding.”
So she created food rules.
No snack if he cried.
No dessert if he asked twice.
No breakfast until he put away his toys.
Then dinner started disappearing too.
“He’s three,” Rocco said.
“I told her.”
“And?”
“She said you agreed that he needed discipline before the wedding.”
Rocco closed his eyes.
There was the method.
Bianca rarely told outright lies when a half-truth would work.
Rocco had once said:
“We need more routine before we get married.”
He meant bedtime.
Meals.
Preschool.
Bianca translated that into authority.
Evelyn continued.
Two weeks earlier, Noah took half a banana from the fruit bowl after Bianca denied him lunch.
She called it stealing.
From that day forward, she repeatedly called him:
thief.
Noah began asking permission before touching anything.
Food.
Toys.
Even his own crayons.
Then Bianca removed most of his clean clothing.
“She told me not to wash the things he was wearing,” Evelyn said.
Rocco stared at her.
“Why?”
“I didn’t understand.”
“Did she?”
“I think she wanted him dirty.”
That sentence changed the room.
Rocco looked down at Noah.
The boy was eating slowly now, spoon held in both hands as if worried somebody might take the bowl away.
Dirty.
Hungry.
Calling ordinary food theft.
Why would Bianca need his son to look that way?

The answer began with a folder Evelyn had found beside Bianca’s printer.
