Chapter 8 - Noah Thought “Thief” Was His New Name

The child therapist Rocco hired did not start with Bianca.

She started with Noah.

Simple play.

Pictures.

Food available without conditions.

No pressure.

During one session, Noah took two crackers instead of one.

Then immediately put one back.

The therapist asked why.

Noah whispered:

“Thieves take two.”

Rocco had to leave the room for several minutes.

Later, Noah drew a picture of the kitchen.

Three stick figures.

Daddy.

Evelyn.

Noah.

No Bianca.

The therapist asked where Bianca was.

Noah colored a dark shape beside the refrigerator.

“Mad.”

Then he added:

“She says I take things.”

“What things?”

“Food.”

“Does food belong to you too?”

Noah looked confused.

At three, the idea that food inside his home was something he could be accused of stealing had already settled deeply.

That became the part Rocco hated most.

Bianca’s scheme required Noah to believe his needs were wrongdoing.

Not merely deny him lunch.

Make him ashamed of hunger.

That was the damage that would take longer to undo than any legal dispute.
