Chapter 10 - Sofia Refused to Let Julian Make the Baby the Excuse
Julian contacted her two days later through counsel.
His first message sounded almost identical to Preston’s in another life, though Sofia had no way of knowing that.
I didn’t know what I was doing. I saw everything collapsing.
Then:
I never would have hit you if I understood how serious things were.
Sofia read it slowly.
Then asked her attorney to send one response.
You slapped me after childbirth because I asked for our daughter. The trust does not explain that.
That became the line she held.
Money explained pressure.
Victor explained conditioning.
Fertility explained fear.
None of it excused abuse.
Julian had options.
Tell Sofia the truth.
Challenge the trust.
Renegotiate with relatives.
Accept that his daughter mattered more than an archaic inheritance structure.
He chose none of them.
Instead he hit his wife.
That was his decision.
