Chapter 8 - Lorenzo’s Final Document Was a Draft Trust Certification
The paper Lorenzo received during labor came from an attorney who once worked with Victor.
It was a draft certification intended for the extended Bennett family.
It stated:
Julian Bennett and spouse are expecting a male child, medically confirmed, with anticipated delivery this quarter.
Below that:
A proposed acknowledgment that the child would qualify as the designated male descendant under the old trust clause immediately upon live birth.
Sofia’s signature line appeared on the draft.
She had never seen it.
Not forged yet.
Blank.
But Victor had planned to obtain it after delivery.
That explained why he was in the hospital so quickly.
If the baby had been a boy, Sofia likely would have been handed documents while exhausted and medicated.
If she questioned them, Julian would pressure her.
If she refused, Victor would call her disloyal.
Instead she delivered a girl.
The entire signing strategy collapsed before it began.
And Victor’s first response was not concern for mother or child.
It was contempt.
“A girl? All this for a girl?”
All this.
The phrase meant more than Sofia initially understood.
All the negotiations.
All the lies.
All the planning.
