Three years before marrying Sofia, Julian received treatment for testicular cancer.
He survived.
Sofia knew about the cancer.
She did not know the fertility consequences.
Before treatment, Julian stored sperm.
Afterward, testing showed severely reduced fertility.
Natural conception was possible but unlikely.
When Sofia became pregnant naturally, Julian was shocked.
Then terrified.
Victor immediately focused on the baby’s sex.
A girl meant they might not get another chance before the trust deadline.
A boy meant the succession problem disappeared.
That was why the twenty-week ultrasound triggered panic.
Victor asked his private physician whether fetal sex could be “reconfirmed.”
The physician said yes—but only through legitimate testing.
Victor did something else.
He created a fake result.
Julian knew.
Then together they began treating Sofia as though she were carrying the son they needed.
Why?
Because Victor was negotiating a restructuring with the extended Bennett family.
He had already told them a male heir was expected.
The announcement improved his bargaining position.
If the truth came out before birth, the rival branch could refuse his proposed settlement.
So the lie expanded.
First inside the family.
Then to attorneys.
