Chapter 9 - Lorenzo Had to Answer for the Punch and Kick

Lorenzo did not pretend everything he did was justified simply because Julian and Victor were cruel.

Julian grabbed him first.

Then swung.

Lorenzo slipped the strike and punched once.

That was directly connected to the immediate confrontation.

Victor then charged.

Lorenzo kicked him once and stopped.

Still, both actions carried consequences.

Hospital security documented the incident.

Police interviewed everyone.

Lorenzo gave a plain statement.

“I hit Julian after he swung at me.”

“And Victor?”

“He charged toward me after I hit his son.”

“Could you have moved away?”

“Probably.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“Because my daughter and newborn granddaughter were behind me.”

He did not embellish.

Did not call himself a hero.

Did not say fathers had special rights to violence.

Later Sofia told him:

“I’m glad you came.”

Lorenzo answered:

“I’m sorry you needed me to come that way.”

That distinction mattered.

He protected them.

He also understood that protection afterward would need to look much quieter.

Lawyers.

Doctors.

Boundaries.

Housing.

Evidence.

May you like

Not fists.
