Chapter 6 - Sofia’s Pregnancy Had Been Turned Into a Corporate Asset
The most painful part for Sofia was not the trust.
It was learning how often Julian discussed her pregnancy without discussing her.
Emails between father and son referred to the baby as:
the heir
the male issue
the continuity solution
One message from Victor read:
Keep Sofia calm until delivery. Stress is unnecessary risk to the asset.
The asset.
Sofia read that line twice.
Then handed the document back to her father.
Her daughter stirred against her chest.
“She meant nothing to them,” Sofia whispered.
Lorenzo shook his head.
“No.”
“They wanted someone else.”
“They wanted a function. That is different.”
It was not comforting.
But it was true.
Julian had not hated his daughter because she was defective.
He hated that her existence exposed a plan built around a boy who had never existed.
The slap in the hospital was not only misogyny.
It was panic.
The moment the newborn girl cried, every false document, every negotiation, every promise to Victor’s relatives became unstable.
Sofia had delivered the truth in a hospital bassinet.
