Chapter 7 - Nurse Claire Had Seen Julian Try to Change the Birth Record

Claire became more important than anyone expected.
Before Lorenzo entered the room, Julian had asked her a strange question.
“When does the birth certificate paperwork become official?”
Claire answered that hospital staff submit birth information according to state procedures and parental documentation.
Julian asked:
“Can a mistake be corrected before filing?”
“What kind of mistake?”
He looked toward the bassinet.
“Sex classification.”
Claire thought he was confused from stress.
She explained that the newborn was clearly documented female.
Julian’s face hardened.
Then Victor joined them and said quietly:
“We may need privacy with the records coordinator.”
Claire refused.
That was when she began paying closer attention.
Later, after the confrontation, she documented everything contemporaneously.
The bassinet kick.
Sofia’s reddened cheek.
Julian’s statements.
Victor’s comments.
The baby’s sex.
The attempt to discuss changing the record.
Nothing supernatural.
No forged birth certificate suddenly appearing.
Just two men already thinking about whether official records could somehow be bent to preserve their lie.

That evidence became crucial later.
