Helena never used the word stealing.
She called it management.
Then safeguarding.
Then family reserve.
Her explanation shifted depending on the document placed in front of her.
“I intended to give Marina everything eventually.”
“When?”
“When she was mature enough.”
“She was legally entitled at twenty-five.”
“The trust language was flexible.”
It wasn’t.
The trustee could delay distribution temporarily under defined circumstances.
Not secretly route payments into a company she controlled for years without notice.
Then came another problem.
Part of the money was gone.
Approximately $46,000 had been used for expenses Helena labeled “beneficiary-related.”
Most were not.
Luxury hotel.
Private driver.
Jewelry repairs.
Club membership.
A charitable table purchased in Helena’s name.
The rest remained recoverable.
That mattered.
The case was not a fantasy where millions vanished overnight.
It was smaller.
More believable.
And somehow uglier.
Helena had used money intended as compensation for Marina’s father’s death to subsidize her own lifestyle.
