Chapter 8 - The Person Who Packed The Suitcase Was Helena
There was no secret servant.
No mysterious enemy.
No unknown relative quietly preparing Helena’s exile.
Helena packed the suitcase herself.
Security footage from the loading yard proved it.
At 7:12 that morning, she removed the suitcase from the trunk of her sedan.
At 7:16, she carried two document folders into the locked storage office.
At 8:03, she returned with the velvet jewelry pouch.
At 10:41, she added another envelope.
Helena was preparing to leave.
Her plan became clearer when attorneys reviewed her travel searches.
One-way flight to Montreal.
Then onward to Lisbon.
Departure scheduled for that evening.
She had not bought the final ticket yet.
But she had reserved it.
Why leave that day?
Because Helena believed the missing trust packet was somewhere in the warehouse.
Once she found and destroyed it, she intended to move enough documents and valuables out of immediate reach to negotiate from abroad.
Not disappear forever.
Helena was too entitled to believe she needed to hide permanently.
She thought a few weeks away would allow lawyers to “clean up” the records.
She never expected Damiano to return early.

was almost ironic.
Helena had already chosen one.
She just had not planned to leave because her son threw her out.
