Margaret’s statement was clinical.
Cold.
She insisted Lily was never starved.
“Meals were delayed.”
“She had adequate caloric intake.”
“She was becoming spoiled.”
She even brought printed articles about childhood obesity despite Lily never having been overweight.
The pediatrician dismantled that quickly.
Lily’s weight curve had been normal before the restrictions.
Then it dropped.
No medical basis supported food withholding.
No clinician recommended it.
Margaret had invented a health justification after the fact.
When asked whether she regretted throwing the Christmas soup, Margaret answered:
“I regret that Claire escalated.”

I regret frightening Lily.
