Chapter 4 - The Secret Basement

Bailey slowly opened her tear-filled eyes, peering through her blonde hair at her aunt. She was hyperventilating, completely terrified of the consequences of speaking.

She continued to rock back and forth on the tiles, staring blankly ahead at the metal fork.

"She's going to ruin us," Bailey whispered, her voice a hollow, terrified echo. "She said if I tell anyone about the basement, the police will take us both away forever."

An extreme, cinematic close-up captured Chloe’s face. The blood violently drained from her cheeks, leaving her looking like a ghost.

Rachel, Chloe’s sister, lived in a sprawling, expensive suburban home. She was the president of the local PTA. She drove a luxury SUV and hosted charity bake sales. She was the absolute picture of high-society perfection. There was absolutely no logical reason for Rachel to have a secret basement that would bring the police to her door.

Unless Rachel’s entire perfect life was a massive, highly calculated lie.

Chloe leaned in slightly closer. She didn't push, but her voice was steady, laced with profound dread as she realized her sister was hiding something monstrous.
