Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Protection

"Let me go! It's a misunderstanding!" Rachel shrieked like a feral coward, completely dropping her high-society facade as she sobbed in sheer terror.
Chloe felt absolutely zero human empathy for the monster crying on the floor.
"Take her away," Chloe commanded coldly, entirely turning her back on her sister.
The trooper violently hauled the weeping, panicking Rachel out the front door. Her desperate, pathetic cries faded into the distance, ending her reign of psychological cruelty, greed, and abuse forever. She was going to face life in a maximum-security federal prison.
The kitchen fell into a profound, heavy, and incredibly peaceful silence.
Chloe knelt back down on the tiled floor. She didn't force Bailey to come out. She simply waited, holding her hand out with profound, unshakeable respect and warmth.
Bailey slowly peeked out from under the wooden table. She realized her mother was completely, permanently gone. The massive, suffocating weight of terror completely lifted from her tiny shoulders.
She crawled out and threw her arms tightly around Chloe’s neck, bursting into genuine tears of absolute, overwhelming relief.
