Chapter 8 - The True Reward

The chaotic, violent energy of the night completely evaporated from the grand mansion.

Lorenzo sat behind his heavy mahogany desk in his private office. The rival cartel had breached the warehouse on 9th Street, completely falling for the GPS trap. They were entirely wiped out in the ambush. Isabella was gone, handed over to the surviving cartel members as a brutal peace offering.

His empire was completely, undeniably secure.

And it was all because of a six-year-old girl.

Lorenzo stood up from his desk and walked out into the massive, brightly lit foyer. Anna was still standing near the marble steps, holding Sophie, terrified that they were going to be punished for seeing too much.

Lorenzo completely bypassed the arrogance of his immense wealth. He didn't look at them like employees.

He gently crouched down in front of Sophie, taking her small hand in his.

"You saved my life tonight, Sophie," Lorenzo said softly, genuine, profound respect filling his dark eyes.

"Mama says we have to protect the people who give us a home," Sophie replied innocently.

Lorenzo looked up at Anna. The terrified gardener was shivering.

"You don't just have a home here, Anna," Lorenzo stated smoothly, standing up and pulling a thick, legal document from his suit jacket. "You own it."
