Chapter 1 - The Axe at the Wedding

The grand, historic stone cathedral was a breathtaking masterpiece of architectural beauty, illuminated by towering, stained-glass arched windows that cast brilliant, colorful rays of light across the crowded pews. At the very front of the church, serving as a magnificent, romantic altar, stood a massive, towering triangular wall completely covered from floor to ceiling in thousands of pristine, fragrant white roses. Hundreds of wealthy guests sat in absolute, reverent silence, waiting for the vows to be spoken.

Standing right in front of the spectacular rose wall was the Groom. His name was David. He was a handsome young man in his early twenties with short, dark curly hair, wearing a highly tailored, dark navy blue mandarin-collar suit.

Standing beside him was his beautiful Bride. She had flawless blonde hair, secured perfectly by an expensive pearl headband, and she wore a breathtaking, custom-made white long-sleeve wedding dress. But there was something incredibly, subtly terrifying about her. Her face was strangely stiff, almost completely devoid of natural micro-expressions, resting in a permanent, unnatural, mask-like smile.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden doors at the back of the cathedral burst completely open.

The quiet, romantic atmosphere was violently, terrifyingly shattered.

Running sprinting full-speed down the long central aisle was a tiny, eight-year-old girl. She had her hair tied into neat braided pigtails and wore a simple, elegant cream-colored dress.

But it wasn't the disruption that made the wealthy guests gasp in pure, unadulterated horror.

In her small, trembling hands, the little girl was carrying a massive, incredibly heavy, sharp metal axe with a bright red handle. She wasn't running toward her father. She was charging directly, aggressively toward the massive wall of white roses behind the altar.

"Stop! No, stop!" David panicked, his voice echoing loudly off the high stone ceilings as he lunged forward, desperately trying to intercept his daughter before she could cause a horrific tragedy.
