Chapter 4 - The Hidden Truth

On the morning of the massive, highly anticipated wedding, the entire cathedral was buzzing with florists, caterers, and wealthy guests.

David was sequestered in the groom's suite, completely oblivious to the terror unfolding beneath the church. Lily had been wandering the dark, stone corridors near the basement, trying to stay away from the terrifying woman who was about to legally become her new stepmother.

While hiding behind a stone pillar, Lily saw the Bride walking suspiciously toward the restricted, unused maintenance tunnels that ran directly behind the main altar.

Driven by pure, innocent curiosity, the eight-year-old girl silently followed the woman in the white wedding dress.

What Lily witnessed in the damp, dark stone tunnel completely, utterly shattered her reality. She watched the Bride aggressively drag a heavy, moving burlap sack into a small, hollow cavity located directly behind the massive wooden frame that supported the giant wall of white roses in the main sanctuary.

Lily heard a muffled, familiar, and deeply desperate cry for help coming from inside the cavity.

The Bride callously nailed a heavy wooden panel completely shut, trapping whatever was inside directly behind the floral display, completely hiding the evidence just hours before the ceremony was set to begin.

Lily didn't scream. She didn't run to her father, knowing he wouldn't believe her over the manipulative woman he was about to marry. The brave little girl knew she had to take absolute, drastic, and undeniable physical action to expose the monster before the vows were permanently spoken.

She snuck into the church's maintenance shed, her tiny hands wrapping tightly around the heavy wooden shaft of an emergency fire axe with a bright red handle.
