Chapter 5 - The Golden Key

The cinematic tension in the glowing ballroom spiked to a paralyzing level.

As the muscular security guards closed in, Lena slowly reached into the deep pocket of her pink maid’s dress. She pulled her hand out and held it high in the air, ensuring the bright light of the crystal chandeliers caught the object in her fingers.

It was a heavy, antique golden key.

Alexander physically staggered backward, his expensive black tuxedo feeling like a suffocating straightjacket. His jaw literally dropped, and a cold sweat broke out across his forehead.

He instinctively patted the inside breast pocket of his tailored jacket. It was completely empty.

"Looking for this, Alexander?" Lena asked, her voice a cold, lethal blade cutting through the silence of the room.

The golden key belonged to the massive, highly secured biometric vault hidden in the master study upstairs. It was the vault where Alexander kept all of his deepest, darkest financial secrets. He had been so busy drinking champagne, laughing, and showing off for his elite guests that he hadn't noticed the "maid" bumping into him earlier in the evening to perfectly pickpocket the key.

"Give that back to me right now!" Alexander screamed wildly, completely losing his composed, handsome billionaire facade. "She's a thief! Arrest her!"

"I'm not a thief," Lena stated clinically, staring dead into the eyes of the man who had ruined her life. "I am simply reclaiming what you stole from my family."

Lena reached into her dress again. This time, she pulled out a thick, sealed red envelope bearing the official wax crest of the Sterling family.

👉 Alexander lunged forward like a desperate animal, completely unaware that his nightmare had only just begun.
