Chapter 1 - The Ghosts in the Foyer

The grand luxury Manhattan estate was a monument to absolute wealth and power. Polished marble floors reflected the warm, glittering light of massive crystal chandeliers. Pristine white floral arrangements sat on mahogany tables. And dominating the entire foyer was a massive, forty-thousand-dollar gold-framed family portrait of Vincent and his new, high-society wife, Victoria.
Vincent, a towering, handsome man in his late thirties with dark hair, a tailored black suit, and an unbuttoned white shirt exposing the edges of dark neck tattoos, walked through the heavy front doors. He was the most feared syndicate boss in the city, returning home from a "business" meeting.
But as he stepped into the foyer, Vincent froze completely.
Standing directly in front of his massive gold-framed family portrait were three ghosts he thought he had buried seven years ago.
Evelyn, his exiled ex-wife, stood there wearing a delicate beige lace dress. Her long brown hair cascaded down her shoulders. Her face was tearful, deeply emotional, but fiercely resolute.
And standing right beside her, holding her hands, were two seven-year-old Caucasian boys. They were identical twins. They had Vincent’s exact dark hair, wearing small, formal suits—one in navy, one in grey—with tiny bowties.
Vincent’s heart stopped dead in his chest. He didn't know they existed.
One of the twin boys raised a small, innocent finger, pointing at the massive portrait of Vincent on the wall.
