Chapter 4 - The Intercepted Letters

Vincent’s ruthless composure completely evaporated into an overwhelming, sickening realization.
"Evelyn," Vincent said softly, ignoring his shrieking wife. "Did you try to tell me?"
Evelyn stood up, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. She didn't look broken anymore; she looked like a mother ready for war.
"I wrote to you every single month for the first year, Vincent," Evelyn stated, her voice steady. "I sent the ultrasound photos. I sent the birth certificates. I begged you just to meet them. But every single letter came back with a typed response from your 'legal team,' telling me that if I ever contacted you again, you would have my children taken away by the state."
Vincent stopped breathing. The blood in his veins turned to absolute ice.
He didn't have a legal team handle his personal mail. His personal correspondence was managed entirely by his wife, Victoria, to ensure "security."
Vincent slowly turned his large, muscular frame to fully face the blonde woman in the red silk dress.
"You intercepted the letters," Vincent stated. It wasn't a question.
Victoria took a terrified step backward up the stairs, clutching the mahogany banister. "I was protecting our marriage, Vincent! She was trying to extort you! You were building an empire! You didn't have time for some pathetic waitress and her brats!"
Vincent’s jaw locked. The muscles in his neck strained against his white collar.

"Those 'brats' are my blood," Vincent growled.
