Chapter 5 - The Medical Record

"Vincent, please!" Victoria panicked, her voice pitching up hysterically. "They aren't even yours! She probably slept with half the city! She's just looking for a payday!"

Evelyn didn't scream. She didn't argue. She calmly reached into her delicate beige lace dress pocket and pulled out a folded piece of thick, medical-grade paper.

"They are his, Victoria," Evelyn said smoothly. "And you know they are."

Evelyn walked forward and handed the paper directly to Vincent.

Vincent unfolded it with trembling, tattooed hands. It was a DNA test, confirming his paternity with 99.9% accuracy. But it wasn't a test from seven years ago. It was dated from last week.

Vincent frowned in deep confusion. "How did you get my DNA last week?"

"I didn't," Evelyn replied quietly. "Your mother did."

The entire foyer went dead silent.

Vincent stared at Evelyn, completely paralyzed. His mother, the former matriarch of the syndicate, had passed away three days ago. Her death was the reason Vincent was so exhausted and vulnerable today.
