Chapter 3 - The Panicked Socialite

Before Vincent could even take a step toward his sons, the sharp, rapid clicking of designer heels echoed down the grand staircase.
Victoria stepped into the foyer. She was a striking blonde woman in her thirties, wearing an elegant, flowing red silk evening gown. She was the queen of this estate, the woman whose bloodline had given Vincent his empire.
When Victoria saw Evelyn and the two little boys standing in her pristine foyer, her face twisted into a mask of furious, unadulterated panic.
She knew exactly who Evelyn was.
"Vincent, get them out of my house!" Victoria shrieked, completely dropping her sophisticated high-society facade. "Security! Get this trash out of here right now!"
The twin in the grey suit looked up at the massive gold-framed portrait again, confused by the screaming woman.
"Mother," the little boy asked, pointing his small finger at the painted image of Victoria standing next to Vincent. "Why are we not in the painting?"
The innocent question sliced through the room like a razor blade.
Vincent’s chest heaved. He slowly turned his head to look at Victoria, who was hyperventilating on the bottom step of the staircase.
"You knew," Vincent whispered, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous rumble.
Victoria’s eyes darted wildly. "Vincent, don't be ridiculous! I have no idea what you're talking about!"
