Chapter 8 - The Apology

The heavy front doors opened, and four massive security guards marched into the foyer. They didn't gently escort Victoria out. They grabbed the screaming, hysterical woman by the arms and dragged her out into the cold New York night, her red silk gown dragging pathetically behind her.
The heavy doors slammed shut, plunging the grand foyer back into a heavy, emotional silence.
Vincent stood perfectly still. The ruthless mafia boss was completely gone. He was just a man staring at the wreckage of his own arrogant choices.
He slowly turned around to face Evelyn and the two little boys.
Vincent completely ignored his expensive tailored suit. He dropped to both knees on the hard marble floor, bringing himself right to eye level with his twin sons.
He didn't try to hug them. He knew he hadn't earned that right.
He looked up at Evelyn. Tears of profound, agonizing remorse spilled from his dark eyes, tracing down his tattooed neck.
"I am so incredibly sorry, Evelyn," Vincent choked out, his voice cracking with the weight of seven lost years. "I chose power over the only real thing I ever had. I will spend the rest of my life trying to make this right. Please. Let me be their father."
