Chapter 1 - The Humiliation

The grand corridor of the estate was usually a place of quiet, intimidating luxury, illuminated by thousands of crystals hanging from the massive overhead chandeliers. Tonight, however, it felt like an execution chamber. A heavy, suffocating tension choked the air. At the center of the polished marble floor lay the shattered remains of a delicate, hand-painted porcelain vase, its sharp fragments scattered like dangerous ice.

Standing triumphantly over the wreckage was Celeste.

She looked like royalty, draped in a breathtaking cream silk off-the-shoulder evening gown that clung perfectly to her figure. A heavy, blindingly expensive diamond necklace rested against her collarbone, a symbol of her upcoming marriage to the city’s most feared man. But her beautiful face was twisted into a mask of cruel, ugly arrogance.

Kneeling on the hard marble floor before her was Laura. Dressed in a simple, slightly faded black and white maid uniform, her dark hair pulled back into a messy, utilitarian bun, she looked entirely defenseless.

Celeste had spent the last three weeks making Laura’s life a living nightmare, constantly reminding the staff who the new queen of the mansion was. But tonight, she had crossed a line. She had intentionally swiped the antique porcelain off the pedestal just to watch the maid clean it up.

Laura silently reached out to pick up a jagged piece of porcelain.

Suddenly, Celeste stepped forward, her expensive heel grinding dangerously close to Laura’s bare fingers. She aggressively invaded the maid’s personal space, leaning down so her face was just inches away from Laura’s. She sneered, pointing a perfectly manicured finger directly at the jagged shards of broken porcelain.

"I don't believe I was finished," Celeste hissed, her voice dripping with venomous, cold authority. "Use your bare hands. Every single piece."

The terrified staff, watching from the shadows of the corridor, held their breath, waiting for the poor maid to break down and cry.

👉 Celeste thought she had completely broken the maid’s spirit, but she was about to trigger a reaction she never saw coming.
